Brett Myers: Unbelievable

If you, like most everyone I know except a few Phillies fans who are friends of mine, aren't watching the Brewers/Phillies game that's currently going on, you're definitely missing out on a spectacle. Myers right now is dominating Sabathia, not with his pitching (although giving up just 1 run in 4 innings so far ain't too bad), but with his at-bats.

Myers, a .069 batter for the season and maybe the most disappointing pitcher in baseball this first half, (Myers was 3-9 with a 5.84 ERA), has put up much more respectable numbers since being demoted to the minors in late June (7-4 and dropping his season ERA to 4.55). Tonight, he's accounted for 19 of the 98 pitches Sabatha threw in 3.2 innings in which he drew a walk and flew out, and is pitching a 1 run 1 hitter. Myers might have as much to do with the Phillies making the playoffs as the Mets inevitable self-destruction.

This still doesn't exonerate him from punching his wife in the face last year, but it definitely makes him one of my favorite stories of 2008.

You're still not off the hook for throwing a hook,
but you look damn good at the plate right now.

8:07 pm: I'm wondering if the announcers just read this, because I feel like they just said most of what I just wrote. At least we're on the same page.

10:14 pm: The Phils won, and they look dangerous right now. I can definitely see them making a World Series run.
