Friday Pic O' tha Week

Things have slowed down here once again to the point where I didn't even get a pic o' the week post up last Friday. (Had a half day, but still...) This week has been pretty damn awful for the Celtics with the Garnett news on top of the fact that Danny Ainge had a freakin' heart attack! Yikes. The playoffs officially start tomorrow and will last for the next two months. Seriously. The seldom mentioned NHL is also in the beginnings of their playoffs with the Bruins, Blackhaws, Red Wings and the surprising Ducks all picking up wins last night. Mark Sanchez is moving up projected draft boards faster than people downloaded the Wolverine movie. One more week till the draft! And the Florida Marlins are the best team in baseball right now? Really? The Blue Jays are 8-3? Our pic o' the week is a guy who won 18 games last year but is already on the DL. Is John Smoltz ready yet? Enjoy the weekend and someone on the west coast holla at me if you see any Sam Summer!

Oh Noes!

KG will miss the entire playoffs due to his mystery knee injury. Story here. Boo.

Leon has had a great couple games back. Time for him to get buckets and contracts!

Editor post jack!

I'm going to chime in here for a hot minute. The TPS Reports have been piling up out here but I had to make the time for this. I'm sure some people will question the decision to try and bring him back for those few games but just going back and watching the injury, I don't think that really made much of a difference. There was no contact with anyone and have some weird collision ala Shaun Livingston. He literally hurt it by jumping up for an alley-oop. Jumping! His game has been too intense for too long and something like this was bound to happen. My dad summed it up the best by saying, "I'm just glad they won last year."

Be that as it may, this gives Leon a great chance to showcase his skills to cash in on a great contract next year as Kate pointed out. Big Baby will most likely start at least against Chicago. But if the C's make it past them, Powe, Big Baby, Miki Moore and probably even Robert Parish will be on the court to guard Dwight Howard. The bench guys will obviously be key in making it to the Eastern Conference finals. You know Paul Pierce is going to push it to the limit maybe even at the expense of the rest of his career. Hopefully Ray Allen will be able to turn it on a little earlier than he did last year in the playoffs. But I believe the time is now for Rondo to make "the leap" into the upper echelon of point guards. I think he'll take young Derrick Rose to school starting this weekend.

So yeah, it's going to suck to watch the playoffs without Kevin Garnett, but I don't see any reason why it still won't be a Celtics/Cavaliers finals. If KG isn't on the floor by then, it might be up to Cleveland (I didn't know they still had a team) to make sure the Los Angeles Kobes don't win the championship. Here's hoping Leon can go all Chev Chelios on everyone's ass!

Celtics update

Leon will be suiting up for tonights game (and likely 1st round preview) at Philly! He may play, considering that:

  1. Ray Allen got suspended for tonights game for elbowing Anderson Varejao in the nuts. Totally worth it.
  2. Big Baby left today's practice with a stomach bug, and
  3. KG is defintiely not playing until the playoffs.
Since this is all-around a great situation in which to tank a game, I don't expect Doc to really try to reintegrate Leon, but Doc DOES hate him, so you never know.
